CENTURY CITY, WESTMINSTER -- Westminster's duelist population is about to soar.
Monday, July 20, Global Dynamics unveiled plans to launch a massive-scale tournament called "Arena of Glory" that would welcome duelists, especially young Academy students, from around the world to participate on the streets of Westminster. The tournament is to be held in mid-August.
The first round will be open, free duels within the Greater Westminster Area, which is a tactic that Walter Blake of Kaiba Corporation America called "a theft of Battle City."
In truth, many strong comparisons exist between Arena of Glory and 1998's Battle City, including the open dueling stage and the fact that unnamed sources inside Global Dynamics indicated that they are procuring a blimp for the finals.
"Of course it's similar. We're similar companies," said Global Dynamics CEO Meridian Stark, "Just as we're the Kaiba Corp. of the 21st Century, so to will Arena of Glory be the Battle City of the 21st Century."
Stark highlighted several key differences beyond geography, including major technological advancements and, though not required, Stark said this would be the first tournament to recognize Riding Duels.
Alice Gideon, Headmaster of Westminster Academy, offered a comment; "After the whole mess with the Masked Duelist, this Academy and this City need something to take their mind off hard times."
However, not all responses are positive.
Victor Harman, owner of a local business in Quay, voiced strong opposition to the tournament, saying that open dueling had the potential to tie up traffic, and hurt the city overall.
Stark assured the Tribune that these concerns were unfounded, and any fears the business community had would be assuaged by the massive influx of consumers.
"Everyone wants to be in the middle of history," said Stark, "and when the Arena is set, Westminster will be."
